45: Interim License

In an attempt to eliminate identity fraud, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation issues an interim driver’s license or identification card to individuals who have never held such a card in Pennsylvania before. The interim card is valid for fifteen days. During the fifteen-day period, PennDOT verifies the individual’s photograph does not match any other person within their database under any other names.

The identification card has a gray banner above the main photograph. It contains all of the same features as the identification types we just discussed including the security features. There are, however, a few additional features.

As you can see, there is a red box around the expiration date. As previously mentioned, the interim ID is only valid for fifteen days. Additionally, you will see the word “INTERIM” written across the card in red as seen in the example.
